According to media reports, industry sources revealed that Samsung has lowered the price of 4Gb DDR4 chips, which is also seen as a strategic measure for the company to accelerate the transition from DDR3 to DDR4.
Samsung continues to scale back its DDR3 chip production while offering more cost-effective DDR4 chip prices to attract orders for applications that still require DDR3 memory, such as consumer electronics, the sources said.
As Samsung cuts DDR4 chip prices, DDR3 memory suppliers may also lower their offers to maintain orders. The decline in consumer DRAM prices is expected to widen in the second half of this year, the sources said.
It is reported that under the pressure of increasing output, the original Korean factory has significantly increased the willingness to let the price in order to stimulate suppliers and customers to pull goods, which has prompted the price drop to continue to expand.
TrendForce, a market research firm, has previously stated that in addition to Korean manufacturers actively reducing prices, spot low-priced granules are also circulating in the market, other suppliers have to follow suit and actively reduce prices for sales, resulting in a decline in consumer-grade DRAM prices in the third quarter. From the original forecast quarterly decline of 8% to 13%, the rapid expansion to 13% to 18%.
TrendForce believes that, before the oversupply improves, it is expected that the price of consumer-grade DRAM will continue to drop, causing the price to continue to fall in the fourth quarter, with a drop of about 3% to 8%, and it cannot rule out the possibility of an expansion of the decline.
